View NAF:NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description Subview
Overview
The NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description subview is part of the NATO System View and one of the 47 NATO Architecture Framework subviews.
Version & Date
Version 3.0
See NAF Release History.
Purpose
From the NATO Architecture Framework v3, CHAPTER 4, Section 4.7.8
A Systems Evolution Description, when linked together with other evolution products such as NCV-3a, NPV-1, NSV-9 and NTV-2, provides a clear definition of how the architecture and its systems are expected to evolve over time. In this manner, the product can be used as an architecture evolution project plan or transition plan..
Covered by NATO release conditions.
Definition
From the NATO Architecture Framework v3, CHAPTER 4, Section 4.7.8
An NSV-8 product describes plans for modernizing systems over time. Such efforts typically involve the characteristics of:
- evolution (changing a system’s quality, functionality or implementation, both technical and managerial, in order to ensure that the system meets current and future operational requirements in a cost effective way); or
- migration (the process of transferring (part of) a system to operate in a different environment, e.g. with a different operating system, platform, database, infrastructure, etcetera)
The two thrusts are often combined.
This product builds on other products and analyses, in that planned capabilities and requirements that relate to performance parameters (of NSV-7 and NSOV-2) and technology forecasts (of NSV-9) are accommodated in this product.
Covered by NATO release conditions.
From the NATO Architecture Framework v3, CHAPTER 5, Section 5.2.6.8
The data in a NSV-8 can include:
- Capability Configurations
- Resources that are parts of Capability Configurations
- Project Milestone (reflecting capability delivery)
Covered by NATO release conditions.
