Systems Architect (Defence Systems)

This requisition offers a highly skilled and motivated Systems Engineer/Systems Architect an exciting opportunity to join the world’s largest defence company. My client is an acknowledged leader in technology and its application in solving complex, real world problems. The main basis of the work they do in Bedfordshire focuses particularly on the design, development, fielding and support of military systems (AFV and C4ISTAR) and Weaponry systems.

Role and Responsibilities:
” Perform architectural and technical planning for the design, integration, verification and validation of the system and its components.
” Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into a hardware and software System solution.
” Identifying design errors, omissions and other deficiencies and recommending revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers and designers.
” Production and detailed understanding of Operational and System level requirements and their flow-down into subsystem level requirements for constituent and subcontractor components.
” Management of all levels of requirement within a DOORS environment, including the production and management of the requirements document e.g. (SRD, SSRD, ICD) and their conversion into specifications.
” Assess and support the integrated System design in terms of cost, risk, ease of manufacture, operational effectiveness, ease of use and supportability.

Required Skills:
” Working within and leading large multi disciplinary engineering teams
” Excellent knowledge and application of various Enterprise or Systems Architecture methods or frameworks (e.g. MODAF/DODAF/TOGAF/TRAK)
” Excellent knowledge and application of various Systems Engineering lifecycle concepts
” Ability to use innovation and traditional methods to develop technical solutions to both simple and more complex problems
” Skilled practitioner in Model Based Systems Engineering
” Development and management of System level architecture models using UML/SysML
” Detailed knowledge of the application of one or more of the following tools; DOORS, IBM Rhapsody, Sparx Enterprise Architect, IBM Rational Publishing Engine to facilitate agile Systems
” Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting

Desirable Skill[/strong]s:
” Knowledge of Armoured Fighting Vehicles design
” Understanding of Electronic Architecture and Generic Vehicle Architecture principals
” Knowledge of EO/IR Sensors
” Knowledge of military communication systems
” Frequent use and application of Systems Engineering technical standards, and MoD documentation (e.g. Def Stans), principles, theories, concepts and techniques and applying their relevance to the projects
